There are always a thousand and one itty-bitty jobs that need doing to keep your business running smoothly.
Some you’ll love and get done without a second thought. But really, the majority of these jobs aren’t the ones that’ll have you jumping out of bed on a Monday morning and smiling all the way to your desk. They’re more likely the jobs that have been playing on your mind all weekend and have you reaching for the snooze button.
So, is there a way to fall in love with Monday mornings again? To not dread your alarm going off even after a long weekend or holiday?
Well, yes! And the steps aren’t as complicated as you might think.
STEP 1: Spot the main culprits and start writing a list
Everyone will have those jobs they find as dull as old ditch water. The culprits I come across most often are…
- Sorting through an overflowing inbox
- Social media admin like proofreading, editing, scheduling, community engagement, creating graphics, and hashtag research
- Drafting and scheduling newsletters
- Sending invoices
- Arranging travel
- Diary management
- Client onboarding admin
- Scheduling appointments and meetings
And those are just a few off the top of my head!
This doesn’t have to be a list you write in one sitting (although I’m sure there’s a few jobs that have come to mind straightaway). Over the next week or so, make a note of the jobs which leave you with that sinking feeling.
STEP 2: Visualise how things could be…
Once you have your list in front of you, pick one job and take a moment (close your eyes if you want to) to ask yourself:
✨ How will I feel once this task is done?
✨ How will it feel to be up to date on [add an ongoing task here]?
Really concentrate on the freedom, relief, happiness, empowerment, or whatever else you’re feeling at the thought of completing this job, and use this happiness boost as your motivation for step 3.
Step 3: Choose your path
There’s always more than one way to reach a goal, and there’s certainly more than one way to tick off all the jobs on your list.
Here are two of my favourites…
👉 Block out specific time in your diary to do these jobs. Then plan something lovely immediately afterwards! After an hour of editing and scheduling your social media content there’s nothing better than heading out for some fresh air or catching up with a client at a local coffee shop to talk through next steps.
👉 Outsource! For lots of the business owners I work with, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. So, what if I told you you could get these same amazing feelings of freedom and relief knowing that someone else was managing these jobs for you?
